The study and practice of Taekwondo focuses on developing and honing physical, mental, and artistic skills. Our traditional approach is one of respect, encouragement, dedication, and safety. We strive to improve the fitness, confidence, self-discipline and concentration of every student.

Three years later, he placed first in the International Karate Championship in Mexico.

After moving from Korea to Austin, Master Um continued with his martial arts studies under Grandmaster Dr. Daeshik Kim, who was a professor at the University of Texas at the time. Dr. Kim is one of the founders of the Kukkiwon, the Korean Taekwondo organization that serves as the issuing body for Taekwondo Dan rank (black belt degree) promotion and certification. In 1990, Master Um opened Master Martial Arts in Westlake, Texas. The school moved to its current location in 1993.
Master Um has choreographed fight scenes for a number of independent film productions, including Beyond the Golden Gate, Fight for Honor, and Evidence. He wrote the original screenplay and directed Fighting With Anger, starring Willie Nelson and Kelli Fleming, which was released on DVD in 2008.
